Dialect Coaching

Well? I'm an actor. What can you do for me?

I can boost your potential to 1) land the roles you want, and 2) sound authentic in the role(s) you have.

How do you propose to do that?

As an actor, your income depends on how well you play the part. Your reputation is at stake every time you walk on stage or in front of the camera. I'm assuming you have the acting component down. However, perhaps the character comes from a place whose accents you're not comfortably familiar with. Sure, there's most likely page on Wikipedia you can refer to, but how much time to you have to authenticate every source?

That's where I come in.

Throughout the years, I have accumulated a wealth of reference materials relating to accents and dialects from around the world (as well as through time).

How can any of that help me? I have an audition coming up pretty soon, and I need to ace it!

We'll start by discussing what you already know about the character's speech patterns and habits based upon what the director has told you so far and whatever is there in the script. Then we'll talk about the character's time period, background and origins and how those factors are likely to them sound.

  • Dialect coaching (unpacking deeper meaning behind structures—influence of time, origin, and socio-economic status)

  • Accent acquisition and comparison (authentic source materials, speech sounds, word stress, word linking, rhythm, phrase prosody, etc.)

Do I have to come to you, or will you come to me?

If you are in Toronto, I can arrange a time and place to met you.
Otherwise, we can arrange to meet on-line.

Excellent. What should I do next?
