A better way to learn accents

Every accent has a blueprint. Learn how to decode it

Most actors learn accents by collecting features: a vowel here, a consonant there, a few pronunciation rules, maybe an intonation pattern.

Before long, they're juggling dozens of separate observations and wondering why the accent still doesn't feel authentic.

What if there were a better way?

Every accent is more than the sum of its individual sounds. Beneath the surface lies a system: a unique combination of vowels, consonants, rhythms, melodies, and speech patterns that work together to create a recognisable accent.

I call this the accent's DNA.

In this live 90-minute workshop, you'll be introduced to a new framework for analysing and acquiring accents. Rather than treating every feature as equally important, we'll explore how accents can be broken down into their core components, identify the traits that carry the greatest perceptual weight, and discover how understanding an accent's underlying structure can accelerate the learning process.

Whether you're an actor preparing for a role, a dialect coach looking for a fresh analytical framework, or simply fascinated by the mechanics of speech, this workshop will give you practical tools for approaching accents with greater clarity and confidence.

In this workshop, you'll learn:

  • Why some accent features matter more than others

  • How to identify the foundational traits of an accent

  • A practical framework for analysing unfamiliar accents

  • How to stop getting lost in endless lists of features

  • A new way of thinking about accent acquisition
